Bio

Jacqueline Letham is an artist living and working on the North Shore of Auckland. Over the Harbour Bridge..

Finding inspiration in natural world, Jacqueline observes the shape, texture, and movement of her surroundings. This leads her to an emotional connection, a way of understanding the characteristics and sense of place.

Using a variety of art materials allows for experimentation and the ability to use many different processes to capture the initial energy of her subject. Charcoal sketches, watercolour studies, and mark-making begin generating ideas, that move towards layering textures with collage and surface mediums. This textural effect allows the paint to flow across the indentations, mirroring it’s own gravitational journey with the same unpredictability of nature.

Each painting encourages viewers to look closer, drawing them in to reveal new details and hidden meanings over time. Perhaps seeing the world in new an unfamiliar way.

Alongside her paintings, Jacqueline makes small assemblages from found objects. She began this during her Fashion and Textiles degree, focusing on recycling. Using wire from old cables and collected items, she creates three-dimensional decorative pieces. With the circular economy even more important, a new collection of artworks are evolving from found objects and unwanted items. With her love of birds and understanding their shape and character, Jacqueline has created some new quirky sculptures that will find a place in your home.
